No two cases get the same investigation.
Two files can carry the same charge and need nothing alike. One homicide turns on whether the witness across the street could actually see the porch at eleven at night. The next turns on a phone extraction and forty minutes of body-camera footage nobody produced. One OWI is about the stop. The next is about the blood draw. One sexual assault case has no physical evidence and comes down to who is believed. The next has a lab report that says less than the complaint claims it does.
So I do not sell a package for criminal cases. I read the discovery, every page, and build the plan from what is in it and what is missing from it. Then I get on the phone with counsel and we decide together where the State's case is weakest and where the hours go first. The plan changes when the facts do, and it is written down so you can see it change.
The State had detectives, a crime lab and months. Your client is entitled to one investigator who reads the file as carefully as they did, without their conclusions.

What do you need to start?
The discovery as produced, including the recordings, and ten minutes with counsel on the theory of the case. If the discovery is incomplete, that is the first thing I write up.
What does it cost?
It depends on the case, not the charge. A misdemeanor with two witnesses and a homicide with twenty are different jobs, and I quote after I have read the file, not before. Hourly, with a written estimate before the work starts. State Public Defender appointments are billed at SPD rates.
How long does it take?
It runs alongside the court calendar. The chronology and gap list come back within the first week. Everything after that is scoped on the planning call and tracked against the trial date.
How do I hear from you?
In writing, as each piece of work is finished. Nothing goes into the file without counsel seeing it first, and you never learn what I found from a report you get the week before trial.
